Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is LogSight?
A.
LogSight is a service that shows you who is visiting your Web site.
Q. How does LogSight work?
A.
Using a small JavaScript tag that you add to your Web site, LogSight monitors your visitors and identifies the organizations they are associated with. LogSight then provides simple daily or weekly reports.
Q. What can I do with LogSight?
A.
With LogSight you can...
Identify new sales leads
Observe Web visits from active sales opportunities
Detect renewed interest from dormant sales leads
See which competitors are visiting your site
Monitor press, analyst, or investor interest in your company
Q. What kinds of companies benefit most from LogSight?
A.
LogSight is designed for small- to medium-size businesses that use their Web site to promote their company or drive B2B sales.
Q. Can I use LogSight with any Web site?
Yes. The JavaScript tag can be added easily to any Web site without installing any software.
Q. Can LogSight identify specific individuals who visit my Web site?
A.
No. LogSight can only identify the organization that provides the Internet connection the visitor is using. Home and mobile users are only identified by their Internet Service Provider (ISP). Office workers can't be identified individually—only by their organization.
Q. Does LogSight use "cookies" to identify visitors?
A.
No. LogSight identifies visitors by their computer's
IP address
. Visitors can be identified even if they have disabled
cookies
in their browser.
Q. Can I use LogSight to get contact information for organizations that visit my Web site?
A.
Yes. LogSight automatically identifies the organization's name and Web site and also provides quick links to find more information using
Google
,
Dun & Bradstreet
, or
Hoovers
.
Q. How does LogSight determine the name and Web site of visiting organizations?
A.
LogSight combines information from multiple sources, including IP address assignment records and
reverse DNS
lookups to determine the name and Web site of the organization.
Q. Why is the name or Web site of the visiting organization sometimes incorrect?
A.
LogSight uses data that is reliable, but not 100% accurate. ISPs sometimes fail to update the IP address assignment records when provisioning Internet access for an organization, and reverse DNS records may be incomplete or out of date.
Q. How does my organization appear to users of LogSight?
A.
Visit LogSight's
My Organization
page to see the records that LogSight has found for your company. Follow the instructions there if you need to make any updates to the information.
Q. How much does it cost to use LogSight?
A.
LogSight is free during the public beta period.
Q. How does LogSight compare to Web Analytics tools?
A.
Most Web Analytics tools don't identify individual organizations that visit your Web site. Rather, they analyze visits statistically to determine how visitors are reaching your site and to help you improve the usability of your site. Generally, LogSight is more useful for smaller, business-to-business sites whereas Web Analytics tools are more useful for larger, consumer sites.
